Yoda Says Do Nothing
Life sucks sometimes—situations and people that you’d rather not deal with pop up unexpectedly and always at the most inconvenient time. There’s the creepy neighbor who plays his music too loudly and the boss with a penchant for condescendence and what can you do? Pretend that it’ll go away if you ignore it long enough, read a self-help book about radical positivity, or maybe just do nothing.
Yes, do nothing. As much as we love to have the ability to choose our own meandering through this life, occasionally we have to step back and just let the heart do its job and let the blood flow through the veins and arteries. Don’t try to fix a situation that perhaps can’t be fixed. Don’t play idealist because it seems healthier than being a realist. Don’t do anything other than let everything sit exactly where it is.
Life and the art of living are messy endeavors to take on because we’re supposed to be alive when experiencing both. Living to the limits and beyond doesn’t mean shuttering things away for a rainy day when it’s more timely or because someone else thinks it’s “better for you.” If you want the good, you have to have some measure of bad—how would you know the difference otherwise?
So celebrate the disappointments and heartache as much as you celebrate the triumphs and joys for every shadow has its place in the sun.
